8 weeks...I must be crazy...8 weeks with a sketch of an itinerary, one backpack, one daypack, and a passport. I'm shaking my head and chuckling right now, which if you know me at all, you can definitely picture. :)
I've started communicating with women in Belgium through the Women Welcome Women Worldwide network, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it's going to work out to meet with 2 of them. I'm holding out hope for the others, though. This program is really, really neat. It's women aged 18-80+ all interested in traveling. We host other women travelers in our houses or just simply act as a day hostess, showing them around town and introducing them to our individual culture. I can't wait for someone to get the urge to come to Madison, WI! You can list your age, interests, languages, etc...and then just find other women to meet up with around the world. Go check it out if you're a woman that loves to travel! The link is in my post below.
In case you haven't heard, Iceland had a volcano erupt near Reyjkavik, and their airport is now closed for a few days.

Thankfully everybody seems to be okay, but can you imagine? Think about walking down your street and all the sudden there's a blast of darkness and heavy, thick ash bearing down on you, cars, houses, pets...wow...Thank God everybody is okay. They're estimating this eruption won't shut down the airspace like last year's did for 5 days and stranded millions of travelers. By the time I fly to Ireland next week, I should be fine. What's funny, though, is that my original thinking was to go to Iceland first and then to Ireland from there. However, the cost of plane tickets was about the same as flying there from the US (i.e. very, very expensive). I ended up moving my Iceland trip to June 22-27 (only know this because I had to book plane tickets), which is the day after the summer solstice. So it's apparently a win-win! If I'd gone this week, I wouldn't have made it, and the summer solstice is the best time to be there anyway! whew - that was a close call :) haha
So let's see...what do I have left to do before leaving tomorrow? Pack (yeah, I know...), call credit cards/cable company/insurance companies/Verizon, organize and list out more specifics of the itinerary (what little I have so far), clean a little bit, make copies of everything, print tickets/confirmations/etc (all in my travel folder of gmail)...and yeah...that seems to be all that's left on the list I have running on a torn off piece of purple post-it note. I LOVE lists and tend to write them on whatever paper is closest to me at that time. :)
Hope things are well with everyone! Feel free to leave me any comments in this blog or on Facebook.
Love ya!
